Phonics and Early Reading

Phonics and Early Reading

At Stoke Hill Infant and Nursery School we believe that all our children can become fluent readers and writers. This is why we teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme. We start teaching phonics in Nursery/Reception and follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised progression, which ensures children build on their growing knowledge of the alphabetic code, mastering phonics to read and spell as they move through the Federation. As we embed this new approach to phonics teaching, we aim to share information to enable parents to support their children as they embark on their journey to becoming confident, passionate and fluent readers and writers.

Our Little Wandle workshops aim to provide parents with helpful information to support children's learning - details are shared through School Gateway and Tapestry. You can find lots of helpful videos and resources for parents on the Little Wandle website.
