Role of the Governing Body

The Governing Body has a strategic role in helping to run the Federation of Stoke Hill Schools. Its three core functions are:

Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

Hold the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School to account for the educational performance of the Federation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff

Oversee the financial performance of the Federation and make sure money is well spent.

The Governing Body, whilst accountable for the performance of the Federation, is not responsible for the  day-to-day running. This is the responsibility of the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School, whose role includes implementing the strategy developed by the Governing Body. The Governing Body exist to support and challenge the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School in achieving the aims for the Federation. Some of the duties of the Governing Body include appointment and appraisal of Headteachers; agreeing the School Improvement Plans; monitoring progress towards school improvement; and agreeing the budget of the schools.
